Veteran softball team honored with special night

FREEPORT — Wounded veterans often receive recognition for their dedicated service, but this week they were commended for their efforts on the softball field.

Sweeny community leaders honored the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team, a nonprofit group created to enhance the health of amputee veterans while educating and inspiring others, Friday night at the An Evening Of Honor gala at RiverPlace in Freeport.

“When you hear about what they do, why wouldn’t you want to support them?” asked Dedra Frazier, event organizer, at the gala. “These men face obstacles some of us will never understand. Their bodies have been changed forever.”
